Bands That Need To Tour Next Summer!!!

It frustrates me every year when I see the lineups for festivals and loads of my favourite bands are not touring. Its depressing. So here are a few bands or artists that I would like to see back on the circuit, in Europe.

Godsmack! They havent toured Europe for sooo long. Wouuld be nice to have them back.

Rob Zombie! Hoping that hes not too busy making T-Rex, the full horror experience would be welcomed to Europe with open arms.

Days of the New! Post Grunge genius, Travis Meeks, is the singer of Days of the New. A fourth album is on the way and the previous 3 were all brilliant.

Video of the Day!

Track: Keine Lust
Band: Rammstein
Album: Reise, Reise

One of the most controversial bands in the world, Rammstein have proved that there are no limits to the visuals they will use both in their videos and live shows. 'Du Hast' is the song that propelled them to fame but later albums had really demonstrated the way they are able to link their music to visual material.

Keine Lust may not be their most famous song nor is it one of their best compositions. However, the video is fantastic.

Song of the Day

Track: Electric Chair
Band: SteelHeart
Album: Wait

SteelHeart were massive in the early 90's but due to a devastating injury to their singer, Michael Matijevic, the world forgot about them.

Michael Matijevic then provided vocals and Steelheart songs to the ROCKSTAR soundtrack. The film starred Mark Wahlberg but Matijevic was one of the voices that was used. If you liked that film and the songs then give this one a listen.

Give Clutch the time of day

Clutch is one of those bands that you see advertised in magazines and people speak highly of them but you rarely give them a listen cos, well, those first few seconds of that track you heard didnt blow you away.

Give them another listen, check out the whole song, and then listen to another, it wont be 10 minutes wasted.

Video of the Day!

Band: Mudvayne
Track: Happy
Album: Lost and Found

Mudvayne has successfully remained relevant despite the demise of Nu-Metal and this is definately due to their ability to write radio friendly tracks whilst maintaining their harder roots.

Happy introduced Mudvayne to a host of new fans and although the video is no Freak on a Leash it is one of those that has a few brilliant shots that make it worth watching.

Song of the Day

Band: Volbeat
Track: Still Counting
Album: Guitar Gangsters And Cadillac Blood

Hailing from DenmarK, Volbeat have made a name for themselves over the past few years on the European tour circuit. Fusing rock n roll with metal riffs and elements of blues and country the Danes have a dedicated and loyal following.

This song is taken off their most recent album and although not the best track on there, 'Still Counting' is definately what Volbeat are all about.

Video of the Day!

Band: Pantera
Track: Im Broken
Album: Far Beyond Driven

Pantera will always stand the test of time. Songs like Walk, Cowboys From Hell, This Love, Cemetary Gates and F**king Hostile still get the respect they deserve from metal fans. Far Beyond Driven was released at the height of the grunge dominance and still hit the Number #1 spot on the Billboard 200.

Heres the song with Dimebags favourite riff. Im Broken... also, the video is pretty simple, but makes you wanna be in that room with the band.

Song of the Day

Band: Dropbox
Track: Wishbone
Album: Dropbox

Touted as one of the potential replacements for deceased Alice in Chains singer Layne Stayley, John Kosco rose to fame with his band 'Dropbox'. Unfortunately for them, things didnt go as planned and Kosco has been lost in the wilderness for a while. But this song shows the promise himself and the band had.

Video of the Day!

Band: Breed 77
Track: Wake Up
Album: Insects

The latest studio release from the Gibraltan Mafia (as they are affectionately known) should raise a few eyebrows. The guitars sound more ferocious and theres some cool time singatures being thrown in. They always put some serious effort into their videos and this one is no exception.

Song of the Day

Band: Richie Kotzen
Track: Paying Dues
Album: Peace Sign

Having played for huge bands like Poison and Mr Big, Richie Kotzen is considered an extremely talented guitarist. What most people dont know is that he can also sing, play bass and drums. Infact the guy is pretty much a one man band.

Video of the Day!

Band: Mastodon
Track: Divinations
Album: Crack the Skye

Arguably the album of 2009, 'Crack the Skye' blew 99% of critics away and showed the metal world that rednecks do listen to RUSH.

There will be plenty more about Mastodon in the near future so rather than rambling on about them now...check this out.

Song of the Day

Band: Seemless
Track: The Wanderer
Album: Seemless

Jesse Leech rose to fame as the singer of Killswitch Engage and as the band were catapulted into stardom with their hit single 'My Last Serenade', Jesse left. There are many stories about the reasons why he left but it is safe to say that after he joined KSE onstage at the RoadRunner United Concert circa 2005 its all in the past. Since KSE he formed a new band called Seemless and its not as heavy as KSE, in fact, its more suited to hard rock fans instead of metal.

Check out this song and judge for yourself.

For those who doubted the return of Alice in Chains!

Lets not talk about the fact that Layne Stayley cant be replaced because thats just stating the obvious. Lets talk about William Duvall and how every time I see him live he gets better and better.

I first saw Duvall sing while supporting Jerry Cantrell on a solo tour in the UK circa 2002. It was in Bradford Rios and 'Comes With the Fall' came out and blew everyone away. Duvall and the rest of the guys were spot on. They even threw in a Black Sabbath cover 'Symptom of the Universe'.

Anyways, Cantrell came out and Duvalls band were his backing band. They nailed every song, all the AIC stuff and Cantrells original material. As far as first impressions go.... very impressed.

Fast forward about 4 years and by now Duvall is confirmed as the new AIC singer. They are in the middle of a European tour and I see them in Granada (Spain). The night is plagued by technical issues and Cantrell got clearly frustrated and kicked a monitor or two but Duvall once again nailed all the classics and most importantly hit the hard notes, winning over the crowd and he was nice enough to hang out after and sign a load of merch for fans.

16th November 2009, Alice in Chains have recently released their first effort with Duvall to mixed reviews. Some major mags saying its brilliant and others... well.. lets just say, they were'nt in agreement. HMV Forum, Kentish Town, we arrive bang on cue just as the venue is opening. The place is buzzing, everyone is smiling and looking really excited.

Enter the venue and the place fills up rapidly, all the best spots are gone in the blink of an eye and the support band 'Little Fish' do their best to get the crowd warmed up. In all fairness to 'Little Fish' they did play well, but a few decent songs on the PA wouldve done the trick.

By the time AIC came out and begun with 'It Aint Like That' the place was like a storm. Them Bones, Dam That River, Again, Sickman, Check My Brain, Rain When I Die... all followed. A short acoustic interval with Your Decision, No Excuses, Got Me Wrong, Down in a hole, Black Gives Way to Blue gave everyone a breather and then it was back onto the heavier tracks.. Man in the Box, Would, A Looking in View, Rooster and Acid Bubble.

To cut a potentially long story short, they were virtually flawless. A few small things here and there that I reckon the bulk of the crowd didnt notice but so what. Cantrell looked at ease, Inez looked like a smiling cheshire cat, Kinney was calm as you get on the drums although he was still ferocious when needed and Duvall nailed the songs. He changed some melodies to suit his own voice and they still sounded AICish.

All in all a great experience and I cant wait for the next album...

Heres some footage I found on Youtube of the gig:

Video of the Day!

Band: Opeth
Track: Porcelain Heart
Album: Watershed

Great Band, Great Album, Pretty damn cool video.

Song of the Day

Band: Dave Matthews Band
Track: Funny the Way It Is
Album: Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King

When it comes to bands doing something inventive and not conforming to current trends there are few that can still have that mainstream appeal. Dave Matthews Band fuses such a myriad of sounds and genres that you can always find something to float your boat no matter what the occasion.

Here is a single off the last album. Beautiful music and catchy melodies with lyrics that can sink in and make you relate to what Mr Matthews is trying to get across.

Great Bands that NEED New Singers!

Its getting close to christmas and if theres one thing Santa could do its sort out some of these inactive bands that are just taking too bloody long to find a new Singer.

For starters, Velvet Revolver are wasting away and its only a matter of time we all just stop caring about what Slash does cos his solo project so far sounds crap.

Then theres Anthrax who just cant decide what to do and even with legendary John Bush back on their last tour, who knows what they will do.

Queen tried it with Paul Rodgers and lets face it, the album sucked. Im sorry to say that cos I was looking forward to it, but it wasnt even worth the price of the printing.

So, in short. Velvet Revolver need someone that has the capability to rock out with the best of them and give Axl and Weiland a run for their money. There was talk of Chester Bennington and even Corey Taylor had an audition but I dont want to see either of them in that band. One person who could pull it all off and has no serious band at the moment... Myles Kennedy! Now that is something I would pay to go see.

Anthrax need to keep a hold of John Bush. Hes the best vocalist they ever had and the guy dominates the stage. Check out their classic song 'Only'

As for Queen, well there is one guy I can think of that could really nail their songs and he hasnt been on American Idol. Jeff Scott Soto...

Video of the Day!

Band: Everytime I Die
Track: Wanderlust
Album: New Junk Aesthetic

Considered Metalcore with Southern Rock influences, New York's 'Everytime I Die' have released their latest album 'New Junk Aesthetic' to critical acclaim. Its an album exploding with energy. A personal favourite is the track 'Wanderlust' and if you check out the video below you will see why. Several driving riffs, vocals are delivered with pure emotion and the video itself has some great shots integrated from the album artwork.

Song of the Day

Band: Bush
Track: Comedown
Album: Sixteen Stone

Slated for being one of those bands riding on the back of Nirvana's success, English rockers Bush released one of the stand out debut albums of the 90's with Sixteen Stone. An album that contained several brilliantly crafted songs. Comedown is one of the gems but doesnt get the airplay bigger hits like 'Everything Zen', 'Little Things' and 'Machinehead' get.

If only Hollywood Undead... were Dead

The 20 year argument about Rap and Metal still gets most music enthusiasts a little hot under the collar. Lets get one thing straight, Hollywood Undead are crap. They dont compare in any way to genre pioneers Faith No More. Cypress Hill showed more originality and musicianship and finally, HedPE are probably one of the most underrated bands of the whole Nu-Metal revolution.

For those of you who are currently giving Hollywood Undead a ridiculous amount of Youtube hits and calling up Scuzz to get their video playing I am going to open the window of opportunity and allow you to be educated in this genre.

Check These Out!

Music Video of the Day!

Band: Puscifer
Track: Momma Sed
Album: "V" Is for Vagina

Maynard James Keenan has been producing outstanding music with TOOL, A Perfect Circle and now Puscifer for nearly 2 decades. Puscifer is the latest of these projects and is completely different to previous efforts. 'Momma Sed' has an acoustic feel to it with an uplifting chorus and some interesting touches here and there with backing vocals and samples.

Song of the Day

Band: Blind Melon
Track: Wishing Well
Album: For My Friends

Blind Melon were on the verge of greatness when tradegy struck and they lost singer Shannon Noon. Songs like 'No Rain' and 'Changes' are breathtaking and with such a talented group of musicians one could only imagine where this band mightve gone had Shannon not passed away. Years in the wilderness and no luck finding a replacement they finally released the album 'For My Friends' with exceptional vocalist Travis Warren. They have since broken up but the song 'Wishing Well' stands up against any of the previous hits they had.

From Women to California Queen's - The Return of WolfMother

Thats right, everyones favourite Guitar Hero band are back with a new album and more drunken air guitar antics. Although their last album got great reviews I wasnt a huge fan of the entire record. Personally, Woman and Colossal were the stand out tracks and the rest were a bit too on the verge of becoming psychadelic rock. But after some lineup changes and all the usual band politics when a band suddenly becomes a huge international success... singer, Andrew Stockdale, is back. Check out 'New Moon Rising'.

Check your TriggerFinger!

There seems to be a staple sound going round for standardised rock n roll nowadays, but not that many bands are doing a good job of it. TriggerFinger on the other hand, do it pretty damn well! They've got that infectious hip shaking beat, slightly stoner guitar sound and a vocalist that seems sincere.

The Atomic Bitchwax!!!

Its been one of those days where bands keep appearing out of no where. Pretty simple... if you like some catchy riffs and vocal melodies... not to mention a bassist that has a cool range of effects and groove, check out Atomic Bitchwax.

Album you Probably Never Heard of...

Band: Army of Anyone
Album: Army of Anyone

Being a bit of a Wikipedia whore I tend to spend way too much time researching bands and what everyone is up to and am kinda relieved that some random person keeps me up to date with exactly who Im looking for. This one instance a couple of years ago involved me wondering what the guys from Stone Temple Pilots were doing and it turned out the the brothers DeLeo were working on a new project. Being the main songwriters in STP I could only feel intrigued to find out a bit more and check out this new project.

Army for Anyone had a myspace page and I soon found out that Mr Patrick from FILTER was on vocals. Now I was never a huge FILTER fan, but the guy has some pipes so when the song 'Goodbye' begun I was very interested. Needless to say, it is probably the stand out track on the album, especially the drum solo part which has me mesmerised every time I hear it.

Its a shame this isnt a STP album but then again, judging by where Velvet Revolver went with their 2nd album Im happy Scott Weiland wasnt given the opportunity to mess this album up. Army of Anyone lacked the major label backing that VR had but this single album is better written, played and has more depth than both VR albums put together. Its a testament to good songwriting.

Other tracks worth checking out on this album are:

It Doesn't Seem to Matter
Stop, Look and Listen

Song of the Day

Band: Billy Talent
Track: Devil on My Shoulder
Album: Billy Talent III

I heard this band when they released 'Try Honesty' and I hated it. Refused to listen to them for a couple of years and then bang, new guitarist joins my band and suggests a Billy Talent song. Opting to give him the benefit of the doubt I agree to listen to the song (which in my mind I had already decided I would hate) and I was pleasantly surprised. Its got groove, a big chorus, sweeeeet guitar licks and lead. Well worth a listen and some air guitar!

Music Video of the Day!

Band: Alice in Chains
Track: Check My Brain
Album: Black Gives Way to Blue

Single off the highly anticipated comeback album by Seattles, Alice in Chains. Now featuring new vocalist, William Duvall, the band has produced an album worth more than the customary listen. This song being one of the highlights, even if it is a little on the commercial side for a band that wrote 'Them Bones'.

Could it be 1992 all over again?

We've seen the release of new Alice in Chains and Pearl Jam albums over the past couple of months, and although neither album can compete with earlier efforts it does beckon the question... 'Is Grunge Coming Back?'

Well, last year did see the return of Stone Temple Pilots to the touring circuit and more recently rumours of a Soundgarden reunion have been circulating. The only major absentee from the early 90's Grunge explosion, for obvious reasons, would be Nirvana. So could 2010, the ushering in of a new decade, see the rebirth of a genre that surely faded out too fast?

Song of the Day

Band: Godsmack
Track: Touche
Album: Good Times Bad Times

Beautiful live recording of a simple song but heightened by Guest Vocalist John Kosco.

On the live dvd, which comes with the album, the vocalists really go all out almost trying to out do each other. Actually one of the best acoustic 'ish' performances Ive seen released.

Bands of the Moment

Sure... so we all have those bands that we keep going back to for inspiration, memories and a lil'self indulgance but right now there are plenty of bands that could one day be like those above.

What bands you say? Well to name a few, Evile, Mastodon, Baroness.. perhaps not all house hold names, and by no means 'Newcomers'. Evile represents all that was great about the 80's thrash scene and its quite annoying that it has taken a relatively new band to really demonstrate a standard of writing that we all hoped Metallica would show for the past ten years. On the other hand its about time Megadeth and Slayer were on the verge of being over-shadowed by something other than American Metalcore.

Mastodon and Baroness are like two leaves fallen from the same tree. Mixture of Prog and Metal, which intricate timings and beautiful lyrics driven forward by beards and a distinct lack of personal hygiene.

A Site Less Ordinary

Its a case of rambling on about random bands, movies, concerts, festivals, etc etc. Time to get my head out of the clouds as such as let loose some of the opinions about what I hear, see and in general experience in the world.
